Intellectual property and copyrights
The Revista de Investigaciones Marinas maintains a policy of Open Access to Information (Open Access) allowing immediate and unrestricted consultation and download of its content. It adheres to the principle that offering the public free access to research helps a greater global exchange of knowledge.
1. Fees
The reception of the manuscript, its processing and publication are free of charge for the authors. Articles are published only in digital version.
2. Copyright, self-archiving, permissions and copyright
The Revista de Investigaciones Marinas uses the Creative Commons Reconocimiento-NoComercial 4.0 Internacional license in the articles and the rest of the scientific material it publishes. This implies that by submitting the manuscript, the authors are giving their consent for the same license to be applied to their works once published. Similarly, once the work has been accepted for publication, the authors automatically transfer their economic rights to RIM.
The CC-BY-NC 4.0 license allows the article or parts of it, once it has been published, to be copied, distributed or used by anyone, as long as proper credit is given to the authors and source. original (RIM). Likewise, the license allows the non-profit reuse of the published material. In case you want to use the published works (or part of them) for commercial purposes, you must request the proper authorization from RIM. In exceptional circumstances the articles may be published under another type of license. If the authors have specific conditions (for example related to financing) these must be communicated to the RIM at the time the manuscript is submitted. The journal reserves the right to accept this type of manuscript and to allow exceptions in the type of license.
Authors must not include in their works any content that is not their own. This includes: photos, tables, images, audio or video files, databases. If the authors need to include material of which they are not the owner, they must provide a document authorizing the use of said material and its publication under the terms of the CC-BY-NC 4.0 license at the time the manuscript is submitted. All data or material extracted from a work written by another person must be clearly identified and attributed to its authors, even if it has not been published or quoted verbatim.
Once an original manuscript is accepted, the author has the right to have her work published in the shortest possible time. The corresponding author has the right to withdraw the article from the review process at any time without affecting its consideration for future publications.
Authors who so wish can publish previous versions (preprint) of their work in institutional repositories. A previous version is considered to be a complete research manuscript sent by the author that has not that has not been subjected to a formal review process (Berg et al. 2016). It must contain the following information that must appear before the title: "Previous version of a work under review at RIM (https://revistas.uh.cu/rim)". If the article is accepted for publication, the author can publish it in the institutional repositories. It will include before the title: "Manuscript accepted for publication in the RIM (https://revistas.uh.cu/rim)".
The authors are authorized to freely reproduce and disseminate the published version as long as the source is explicitly cited and it is not done for commercial purposes Readers are authorized to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link the texts to their version at full text for any legal purpose, provided that such actions involve activities of no commercial value.
