Self-assessment: defining stage in the accreditation of higher education institutions
Abstract
Accreditation is currently of great relevance for the improvement of the quality indicators of Higher Education Institutions. It is characterized by being a process where each stage has its objectives and functions. This study focuses on self-assessment as it constitutes the starting point for the rest of the actions. It had the objective of analyzing the place of self-evaluation in the accreditation process, based on its characterization as a defining stage in said process. It is a non-experimental exploratory research with a descriptive cross-sectional methodological design. A questionnaire was applied to the main professors of this task in a State Public University. The analysis of the results shows similarities with recent research regarding the situations that are commonly faced during the self-evaluation, which opens the possibility to generate a proposal that contributes to improving the educational quality processes.
