Keywords:
fertility, social representations, subjectivityAbstract
Low levels of fertility in Cuba, given its impact on population´s aging, are subjects of interest for academic and political circles, who consider the need to analyze their multiple contributing factors and acknowledge the benefit of understanding different subjective aspects associated to these facts. Maternity and paternity social imaginaries studies, in terms of the theory of social representations (SR), constitute the path followed along the empirical research with a qualitative approach, performed since 2001 by different groups in Havana, and directed towards establishing a relationship between maternity and paternity SR, and the decision of assuming such processes. The results have made possible the insights on gender, socio-economic and cultural determinants,
influencing the subjective regulations of human behavior that will be submitted in the present paper.
