Abstract

The configuration of the “marriage market” could be observed with significant precision considering the marital status of people, by sex and age, taking into account that all not marriage (or living together) people are able to act as suppliers or demanders. According to censuses information, this paper analyzes the composition by sex and five years age groups, of the Cuban population during the period elapsed between the censuses of 1931 and the 2012. It also studies the index of masculinity. The outputs indicate relevant unbalances, first, with an "excess of men" and in the last decades with an "excess of women." It seems that migration is the demographic variable, that influenced the most, the unbalances observed in the indexes of masculinity.
