Cercidoideae (Fabaceae) is represented, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, by two genera, Bauhinia L. and Schnella, with arboreal, shrubby and lianescent habit; leaves alternate, compound, bilobed to bifoliolate, with pulvinus; racemose inflorescence, bisexual flowers, pentamerous, with hypanthium; stamens free, ovary unicarpellar, superior, stipitate. They differ by habit, presence of tendrils and shape of the flower bud. A preliminary survey on the SpeciesLink and Flora e Funga do Brasil platforms, 2,727 exsiccates and 26 species names were found, collected in Minas Gerais, deposited in 81 herbaria, many with outdated names and approximately 522 unidentified. A taxonomic study was carried out, based on the morphological analysis of specimens deposited in herbaria, complementary collections and field observations. The collected materials were deposited in the VIC Herbarium, at the Federal University of Viçosa. The exsiccates were identified and elaborated as keys for identifying genera and species, specifics, illustrations, taxonomic comments, geographic distribution and habitat preference of each species. In this work, the occurrence of 21 species of Bauhinia and seven species of Schnella were reported in Minas Gerais, representing 43 % of the species occurring in Brazil. Twenty species occur in the Cerrado, 13 in the Atlantic Forest and 6 in the Caatinga.
