Abstract

The present paper advocates the improved estimation of population mean through a new class of estimators using the known informations on an auxiliary variable under the Simple Random Sampling Scheme. The existing estimators of population mean have been shown as the members of the proposed class. The Bias and Mean Squared Error (MSE) of the suggested class are derived upto the first order of approximation. The values of Bias and the minimum MSE are obtained by optimizing the chracterizing scalar. The MSE of the suggested estimator has also been compared with the MSEs of the existing estimators for the comparison of these estimators. Some of the new members of the suggested family are also presented in the paper which are more efficient than the existing ones emperically which has been shown using a natural population.
