Abstract

This paper analyses the behaviour of road construction sector in Spain since 1992 to 1998. In order to identify the pattern of sector concentration level, different statistical measures traditionally handled in this field are applied: CR coeficient, Hirschman-Herfindal index, Hall-Tideman index, Entropy coeficient, T-Theil coeficient, Gini coeficient and Variatión coeficient. Particularly, our estimations are based on firms sales data according to SIC classification. Very similar results are obtained from the use of the cited indexes, both from a static and dynamic perspective. The values of correlation coeficient betwen all those statistics indicators allow us to conclude that the concentration of road construction sector has significantly increased during the sample period.
