In this work the concept of power of a statistical test is revised. In particular, the power in the frame of an analysis of variance (ANOVA) is studied. A prospective analysis of power is used for determining the repetitions of the several levels that are compared. This analysis is based on Scheffé (1959), but using the current computation facilities. In consequence, it is not necessary to consider charts such as those of Pearson & Hartley (1951) or Patnaik’s approximation (1949). A program in Matlab is offered to facilitate this study according to the necessities of the user
